Audrey Ann Staker

December 21st was Doug’s birthday.  Nothing too exciting for poor Doug.  I don’t think I even made him a cake.  What kind of wife am I?  I guess it was because we both had a hunch this baby would come soon.  We spent the evening packing a bag and getting things set, then around 8:30 we went to the hospital.  I explained that the contractions were 3-5 minutes apart, but that they didn’t really hurt.
It was strange because I knew the baby would come soon, but at the same time I kept expecting everything to be more painful and dramatic.  Thus the reason Daxton was with us.  They put me in a hospital gown and said that I had progressed far enough that this baby would probably share a birthday with her daddy.  We were excited and I was feeling pretty good.  Daxton was running around like crazy and being adorable for all the nurses.  When we had a better idea of how soon things would happen, Doug called his parents and they came up to spend the night with Dax.  Luckily we live across the street from the hospital and Doug could run Daxton home and get everything settled for them.
I had an epidural to take care of the rest of contractions and really felt great.  Doug and I were actually enjoying talking and spending time together.  Like a much needed date that doesn’t happen very often.

Finally the doctor said I was ready to push.  They thought the baby might come in time for Doug’s birthday, but she was so big and I’m so small that it just didn’t happen that way.   At 12:57 am on December 22nd our baby girl was born.  She weighed 7 lbs 9 oz and was 20 inches long.  We named her Audrey Ann.  She was perfect.

I was excited that I got to hold this baby instead of my experience with Daxton when they had to rush him to the NICU because he was so early.  She reminded me of her big brother and was just so cute.

Audrey was cuddly from the start and I felt badly because she had a terrible sore on her head, so I just held her to my chest and admired her.  She would whimper and cry and I could tell she had a headache, but I loved how she just cuddled up like I would take care of her.

It seemed like from the start she just wanted to be held all the time. And I didn’t mind one bit.

After her first bath, Doug went home to sleep because we both knew sleeping in the hospital is impossible.

The next morning he came back in with Daxton.  I was excited to see my little boy and introduce him to his new sister.  He didn’t know what to think about her.  He kept saying baby over and over but really had no idea that the baby was going to come home and be part of our family.

After introducing her to grandparents, aunts, and uncles, we all came to the same conclusion.

She is simply adorable.

We are so happy to have such a sweet baby girl in our home.
