Facts About Dax: 18 months

Today Daxton had his 18 month appointment.  While in the waiting room, Daxton tried to follow every child who was called in to see the doctor.  There was a movie to watch and a lot of fun toys to play with, but I think Daxton was curious as to where the kids were going.  Once Daxton's name was called we started walking in, and he seemed glad that he got to see what was beyond those doors.  And then he recognized exactly what was beyond the doors.  And he turned to stomp his way right out of there.

He remembered that place and he knew it didn't end well.   He was nervous the whole time.  He kept asking to go.  When the nurse measured him up on the table he cried and wriggled and tried to escape.  32.5 inches long.  He was so relieved to get off the table.  Wearing only a diaper, he tried to run away when we put him on the scale.  25.6 pounds.  He was fast, I was faster.  Then the doctor examined him up on the scary table.  Once again, Daxton let him know he was not okay with this.  Upon seeing the doctor leave the room, Daxton grabbed his shoes and told me it was time to go.  But, not in enough time.  In came the nurses with the shots.  His crying got louder once he was up on the table, I felt bad because I knew he was upset that I wasn't stopping them from poking him.  One, two, three, poke.  He didn't cry any louder once he actually felt the needle.  A split second later he had a crayon band-aid on each chubby thigh.  The nurse asked if he wanted a sucker.  He responded with a "uh hum" and the crying stopped immediately.  Not a tiny cry or even a whimper more.  Silence...  Slurp.  Pop.  I couldn't help but laugh at my little boy.  I put his shoes on and with his chubby fist wrapped tightly around an already sticky sucker, he walked out proudly back to the car.

Funny kid.

Daxton and the blessed pineapple coconut sucker.

Seeing as my little boy has reached his year and a half mark (actually it was a few weeks ago, but due to a crazy schedule his appointment was today and so is this blog post...) I thought I'd share some fun Dax facts.
  • His favorite foods are peanut butter sandwiches, bananas, yogurt, and spaghetti.
  • He loves sharing chocolate milk with his dad. He drinks out of a straw like nobody's business.
  • His favorite activities include playing cars, throwing rocks, running outside, getting the mail, squishing ants, and looking for birds.
  • His favorite movies are Up and Cars.  He isn't really into TV, but when he watches Super Why, he always responds when they ask him what super letters were found.  It's so funny to hear!
  • His best friend is his dad.  Throughout the day he'll walk up to Doug and say "hi Dad" and give him a few love pats.  When Doug isn't home, Daxton is constantly asking "where Dad go?"
  • My favorite phrases to hear are:  "here-ya-go," "tunk-ooo" (thank you) "uhh-take-a-baff" (take a bath) "the moo-oo-oon," and just the other day when Doug told Daxton good morning, he responded with a "guhh nung-ning" and matched the tone of voice perfectly.
  • Besides the common phrases; mom, dad, bye bye, go, up, down, bird, car, etc., Daxton is fluent in his own language, most of which sounds something like "uhhdubbadubbadubbadubbadubba" or "doopastoopadoopadoobatoobaooba" said super, super fast.

I can't believe it's been eighteen months.  Daxton has been such a blessing in our lives.  I'm sad to see him grow up so fast and I hope I can remember what a sweet baby he has been.  I'm also exicted for the next eighteen months and can't wait to see the little boy he has become!
